Nostalgia Overload of the Day: MTV announced today that it would be resurrecting iconic 90s music video showcase 120 Minutes as a monthly program on MTV2 complete an online companion called “120 Seconds” which will be posted each week to MTV Hive. “120 Seconds” will debut tomorrow; a premiere date for 120 Minutes has yet to be announced.
Also returning to the network is legendary 120 Minutes host Matt Pinfield, who will host the new show as well as its digital counterpart. 120 Minutes’ original run lasted from 1986 to 2000, with Pinfield at the helm from 1995 until shortly before the show’s untimely demise.
“Things have changed drastically,” Pinfield told ArtsBeat’s Dave Itzkoff, “but there’s still more great bands and more new music and more people consuming and enjoying music than ever.
It’s absolutely relevant and there’s no better time to bring it back.”
