The Syrian Electronic Army (SEA), a hacking collective with a recent history of compromising social media accounts owned by major news agencies such as the AP and Reuters, has taken responsibility for infiltrating The Onion's Twitter feed yesterday. During the takeover, the group posted several tweets containing disparaging remarks towards Israel's military operations and Zionism, According to a statement given to The New York Times by SEA member “Th3 Pro,” the hack was orchestrated in retaliation against an Onion satire article written from the perspective of the incumbent Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad.
